2006»Landis' 'comeback'

Key events can be any memorable event, for example an impressive victory but also a major crash, bold solo or anything that makes for sporting memories.

Description

One day after Floyd Landis seemed to have lost the Tour de France, with the yellow jersey slipping from his shoulders as he finished 10 minutes behind and dropped out of the top 10 in the standings, the American cyclist from Phonak staged an astonishing comeback. Landis initiated an attack at the Col des Saisies, 127,6 kilometers before the finish and powered through to achieve a monumental victory over the Col de Joux Plane. Suddenly, his deficit had shrunk to just half a minute, a difference he would comfortably make up for in the time trial two days later. Landis emerged as the winner of the Tour, but it would later be revealed that he had tested positive for doping after the stage to Morzine.
