Story of the day

A long battle preceded the formation of a seven-man break, though the peloton never allowed them much freedom. On Jebel Hafeet, Tarling and Øxenberg were the last of the early break to be caught. Evenepoel cracked relatively early on the final climb. Tiberi initially followed Del Toro’s acceleration but eventually had to concede. Del Toro rode clear solo to win the stage and take the overall lead.
